Friend, This week, our traumatized nation watched in horror yet again as news broke of another major mass shooting — this time at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston, ME. A shooter used an assault-style weapon to gun down 18 people and injure 13 others in a matter of minutes, marking the deadliest mass shooting of 2023. At Brady, we're mourning with Lewiston for the lives lost. Once again, another community has been forever stained because of our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Our hearts break for the innocent victims — which included a children’s bowling league — who were simply trying to enjoy a night out with friends, family, and community members.
We're channeling our grief and anger into action: We're calling on Congress to pass common-sense gun safety laws that will save lives. But we're up against a powerful and ruthless gun lobby, and we need your help to fight back. Please, friend, will add your name to our urgent petition calling for Congress to ban assault weapons?

Over and over again, assault weapons are used to massacre en masse. From Highland Park, Uvalde, Buffalo, Parkland, and now Lewiston, these weapons of war are designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. In fact, in shootings where assault weapons or high-capacity magazines are used, 155 percent more people are shot, and 47 percent more people are killed. And to make matters worse, in most states, including Maine, assault weapons are easier to purchase than medicine you’d buy over the counter.
This isn’t normal. We don’t deserve to live in a nation where innocent Americans are gunned down in bowling alleys, grocery stores, and schools. But what we do deserve is to live in a nation where our lawmakers prioritize our public safety to help prevent senseless gun violence — and that’s why we’re reaching out to you today.
In honor of the lives impacted in Lewiston, will you join us in calling on Congress to ban these weapons of war? The majority of Americans are in support of an assault weapons ban. But like after any other massacre, we know the NRA and its allies will claim the only way to stop this violence is with more guns. So, please, take action now and make clear that the time is NOW to pass a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
