From PR to the Green New Deal, Brexit and Beyond: GPEW and Europe since 1989

John,

Jean Lambert witnessed at close quarters the growth of Green politics in Europe. Appointed an “honory member” of the Green group in 1989, after the party polled 15 per cent of the vote in the European elections but secured no seats, she was subsequently elected MEP for the London region in 1999, a position she held for 20 years. By the time of her departure in 2019, Greens were a powerful political force in Brussels, but the UK parliament and politics was in disarray over Brexit.

Join us for a fiftieth Anniversary event on Thursday 9 November 6.00 - 7.30pm when Jean Lambert, the party's longest serving former MEP, will be joined by co-leader Carla Denyer, politics lecturer Mitya Pearson, University of Warwick and Eleanor Morrissey, European Young Greens, to discuss key milestones in her long career, from the introduction of proportional representation, the influence of the Green New Deal, to the ongoing damaging impact of the 2016 referendum.

Did the 1989 breakthrough have a lasting legacy? What was the impact of the Green surge on Europe? And can GPEW follow the example of other European Green parties and join a future Government?

Join us online on Thursday 9 November to find out.

See you there!
