We hope you have had a great week! Congressman Kim returned to Washington where House Republicans finally elected a House Speaker after 3 weeks of grinding our government to a halt. In-between votes, briefings, and committee business, the Congressman met with local New Jersey stakeholders, discussing support for our healthcare and hospitality workforce, support for American business globally, and more.

Yesterday, the Congressman and our office were closely tracking an active shooter alert and lockdown in our community at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. We are relieved and grateful that the alert was lifted and the threat unsubstantiated with no active shooter ever present. After the horrific mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine earlier this week, we are grieving for the lives lost and with families impacted by the repetitive trauma of gun violence. Congressman Kim continues his commitment to common-sense gun violence legislation to prevent more deaths.

Supporting New Jersey Nurses

This week, Congressman Kim voiced his support for nurses who are currently striking in New Brunswick for safer staffing.

“Our nurses and healthcare workers at RWJ and hospitals around New Jersey and across our nation are there for us when we need them the most. We should be there for them when it comes to safe staffing standards, fair wages, and good benefits. Nurses aren’t asking for the moon. It’s frustrating that this stalemate has gone on so long and I encourage the parties to come together to find a solution that protects and supports our healthcare workers’ tireless service, so that our hospitals and health facilities can continue providing high-quality care,” said Congressman Kim

Local Job Fair to Support Local Workers

Our office joined the New Jersey Department of Labor’s job fair this week to stand with local workers impacted by the Freehold Nestlé plant closure and have their back with additional resources. We hope all the community members who came through found helpful information from the many groups participating, and encourage more people to try to attend their next job fair on December 6th. We will share more information on this toward the end of November!

We have compiled a new “Workers Assistance Resource Guide” with compiled local information on unemployment assistance, job boards, and resources that could help you cover everyday costs. If you need direct help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office.

Celebrating our New, Local “Tech Hub” Thanks to CHIPS and Science Act

This week, Congressman Kim celebrated the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s announcement of 31 Tech Hubs across the U.S. that will supercharge local economies and boost innovation, including the Greater Philadelphia Region Precision Medicine Tech Hub!

Thanks to the CHIPS and Science Act that Congressman Kim helped pass into law in 2022, this Tech Hub will create jobs in our region and new ways to help people battling illness, and help us be a global leader in the field.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps families cover home energy costs and stay safe and healthy through the hot and cold. Thanks to support from the bipartisan infrastructure law, New Jersey was awarded $121,712,800.00 to assist low-income families ahead of the winter season.

As we head into cold weather, you can see if you’re eligible for assistance with their new online tool.

House Republicans (Finally) Elect a New Speaker, Governing Begins Again

After long weeks of trial and error from House Republicans, they elected Congressman Mike Johnson (LA-04) this week to be the 56th Speaker. Congressman Kim voted against his nomination because of his extreme record in support of a national abortion ban with no exceptions, slashing Medicare and Social Security, and overturning the 2020 election. With the position finally filled, on Wednesday the House quickly took up a resolution declaring solidarity with our ally Israel and pledging security assistance.

Congressman Kim co-sponsored and voted to help the overwhelmingly bipartisan resolution pass on Wednesday.

On Monday at 3:30 PM, Congressman Kim will be joined by Department of Education Financial Student Aid, New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, and YesSheCanCampaign representatives for a discussion on making education more affordable.

The panel will talk about how to navigate federal and state aid and loan options, efforts to increase transparency in lending, and more! Register now to be able to join.

UPCOMING: Veterans Affairs Tele - Claims Consultations

We are hosting a Telephone Claims Consultations Clinic again with the Department of Veterans Affairs! Local veterans, servicemembers, and dependents eligible to receive VA benefits can call our Freehold District Office at 732-504-0490 to schedule their call from a VSO. All calls will be scheduled for between 9 AM - 6 PM on Friday, November 10th.

On your call, VSOs can help get information about VA benefits, submit a claim for compensation benefits, and get information on the status of your claim.

We are excited to share that our internship applications are back open for the Spring term! If you or someone you know is interested in hands-on experience in Congress, apply to help us serve New Jersey. We have openings for legislative and communication internships in our Washington, DC office and positions across our district offices in Freehold, Hamilton, and Willingboro.
