We’re sure you didn't wake up this morning, spring out of bed, and scream "Today is the day I am going to donate to help Elissa Slotkin hold Michigan's Senate seat for Democrats!"

But we’re emailing in the hope that you will consider contributing today anyway. Here’s why:

Michigan is going to be one of the closest, most competitive, and most expensive Senate races in the country next year. Recent polling shows a dead heat in both the Senate and the Presidential races, which means we have two competitive elections to win next year. And now there are two serious potential Republican opponents in the race who both support federal abortion bans with no exceptions for rape, incest, or common miscarriage.

This news makes it especially important that we’re doing the work to build an early foundation now. Donations a year from now – when we’re in the home stretch – are important. But donations now are even more important, because they allow us to map out a strategic plan and make decisions about when and how we reach voters.

We also hope you will contribute because the latest FEC filings show that Republican megadonors are going to throw everything they can at this race to flip Michigan red. Remember ultra-wealthy Betsy DeVos, Trump's Secretary of Education who removed protections for LGBTQ students and criticized teachers' unions? One of Elissa’s potential opponents, former Congressman Mike Rogers, received $46,200 from the DeVos family – all made on a single day.

By contrast, the majority of the donations we receive come from people contributing significantly smaller donations than the DeVos family made to Mike Rogers: Our average email donation was $26 last quarter.

So while contributing to Elissa’s campaign for Senate might not have been at the top of your to-do list this morning, we would love it if you would consider splitting a $10 contribution to Elissa's campaign and to Tina’s work to hold the Senate majority. The amount is important, but not as important as the donation itself. It will all add up fast when we're all chipping in.
