We have known that the Michigan Senate race would be one of the most competitive and most expensive in the country. And because Elissa rejects all corporate PAC money, we knew that the only way to win this race was to rely on a bunch of people giving whatever they can, when they can over time.

And that’s exactly what we’ve done: 92% of our contributions last quarter were $100 or less, with the primary source of those contributions being emails like this one. And it’s $5, $25, or $100 contributions to our emails and texts that help drive what this campaign is able to accomplish: when we can expand our ground-game, hire more staff, and begin airing TV ads down the line.

That’s why when we found out that one of our potential Republican opponents received $46,200 from the DeVos family in a single day, we shifted into high-gear. The DeVos family has contributed over $1.6 million dollars to elect candidates who will carry out their agenda at the national level, and the only way to combat that level of influence in our race was to match them with the power of small, grassroots contributions.

The response has been overwhelming. And just further proves that when a whole bunch of people band together, it really does add up. The big checks of megadonors like the DeVoses don’t hold a candle to the power of lots and lots of people giving a little at a time.

But we’ve already seen that they’re going to throw everything they can at this race, which is why it’s so important we keep up our steady stream of grassroots support. This is why we’re asking: Will you help us push back against the influence of the DeVos family in our race by chipping in today?
