Washington, D.C. - This week, my colleagues and I elected a new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson from Louisiana. We immediately returned to work tackling the many pressing issues facing our nation and the world.

We passed a resolution to support Israel in their war against Hamas and passed the Energy and Water appropriations bill. In the coming weeks, we will continue to pass bills that cut wasteful spending while responsibly funding the government and negotiate with the Senate.

On Tuesday, I joined North Texans from the Asian American Hotel Owners Association to welcome them to D.C. and discuss opportunities to support our hospitality industry. I'm grateful for their commitment to the hospitality industry and welcoming visitors to our community. Thank you for having me!

Later in the week, I joined my Committee on Ways and Means colleagues for a hearing on educational freedom and opportunity. We're working to provide more educational options to fit the needs of the child and give parents oversight into their child's education. You can watch the hearing by clicking on the image below.

After hearing from members of our community as well as my colleagues, I announced my candidacy for Vice Chair of the House GOP conference. It's important to have someone at the leadership table with experience delivering on key issues, including successfully reducing illegal immigration, passing balanced budgets, and expanding job growth to support working families. You can read more about my bid for GOP Vice Chair in the Dallas Morning News.

Texas-24 Work of the Week

This week, I joined my Committee on Ways and Means colleagues to introduce a bill to provide double-tax relief between the U.S. and Taiwan. In our continued efforts to promote collaboration with our ally, Taiwan, this bill will protect Americans in Taiwan from additional tax burdens when traveling and ensure Taiwan’s existing investments are not penalized.

Texas-24 Hometown Hero

This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Warden Freddy Garrido! Warden Garrido has empowered inmates with life skills needed to be successful upon their release.

Thank you for your contributions to our community and congratulations on your retirement!
