Fracking poisons our water, our land, and our air. It takes a huge toll on frontline communities, often communities of color and low-income areas across the country. And there’s no doubt it’s helping drive the climate crisis.
This is something Food & Water Action has been warning about for years, and as the first national organization to call for a fracking ban everywhere, it's up to us to continue leading this fight.
Together, the momentum we've created around the country shows that Americans want a national ban on fracking. It's because of your hard work that Congress has introduced the first-ever federal legislation to ban fracking. Join us and many other organizations across the country to stand united in pushing our elected representatives to co-sponsor the landmark Fracking Ban Act.
Introduced by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Darren Soto (D-FL), the Fracking Ban Act moves to protect our climate, water, and health from the dangers of fracking.
This act will not only ban fracking nationwide by 2025, it will also:
Stop federal agencies from issuing permits for new fracking-related infrastructure (such as pipelines, gas storage facilities, and other infrastructure intended to extract, transport, store, or burn fracked gas or oil);
Revoke permits for current fracking wells within 2,500 feet of homes and schools; and
Establish a Just Transition Committee to help gas and oil industry workers transition to green new jobs.
Our grassroots movement to ban fracking is stronger than ever. With your support, we’ve banned fracking in Washington state, New York, and Maryland, and stopped dozens of fossil fuel infrastructure projects. Right now, we’re fighting more than 50 campaigns across the country to stop fossil fuel.
