John,

After three weeks of chaos and uncertainty in Congress, this week, ultra-conservative Republican Mike Johnson (LA) was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. So who is Mike Johnson and what does this mean to the work we do at Food & Water Action?

Speaker Johnson is a close ally to Donald Trump. He was instrumental in the planning to overturn the 2020 election and the January 6th insurrection.
He is a climate change denialist who has actively opposed the Green New Deal.
He has received more money from oil and gas than from any other industry!

Mike Johnson’s shameful anti-truth, anti-science views are a clear and present danger to our public health and environment. He called the climate and clean energy programs in President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, “green energy slush funds.”

And just yesterday he passed legislation in the House that would cut energy efficiency programs. I think this pretty much tells us everything we need to know, and I’m worried.

The MAGA extremism and chaos that led to the mess in the House only demonstrates why we’re gearing up for 2024 today.

With you, our organizers, lawyers, and policy team will be ready to go up against anything that jeopardizes our food, water, climate, and democracy.

That's why we'll be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and getting out the vote across the country to ensure that Democrats reclaim the House majority in 2024, but we need you with us in this moment. The health and safety of our communities and a livable climate for this planet is at stake.

Join our movement with a gift to Food & Water Action. Your donation will be used to mobilize volunteers and organizers to elect more climate champions in 2024.
