We are writing to tell you about a horrifying experience one of our candidates is currently having.

Given the sensitive nature of this subject matter, we considered not sending this email today. But as supporters of Her Bold Move and the effort to help get more women into our government, we decided it’s important to share what’s going on – because this type of harassment happens all too often to women who are brave enough to run for office.

The state Republican Party – yes, the official Republican Party of the state in which our candidate is running – mailed out political fliers containing explicit photos of her without her consent. This mailer went out to thousands of people in her community:

No candidate deserves to endure this type of harassment, and no one who associates with this type of political strategy deserves to be in office. This was a vile and unforgivable move by an institution that claims to represent approximately half of the voters in their state.

We started Her Bold Move because women candidates continuously face sexism, double standards, and, in far too many cases, sexual harassment while running for office. This is something that simply does not happen to male candidates to the same degree. This is an experience unique to women candidates – and this is why women are terrified to run for office.

Her Bold Move exists to smash glass ceilings and help Democratic women across the country win elections. We exist because, for too long, women have been forced to sit idly on the sidelines, watching men make decisions about our healthcare, our opportunities, our bodies, and more.

When a political institution sends out explicit political fliers to voters in an attempt to objectify and humiliate a woman candidate, HER BOLD MOVE will always call it out for what it is: MISOGYNY.

In just 11 days, voters will head to polls across the country to elect new representation – from school boards to Governors. We must ensure our candidates have what they need to fight back and WIN.
