Rep. Mike Johnson Elected Speaker of the House
|
On Wednesday, House Republicans elected Representative Mike Johnson to serve as the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Speaker Johnson is a man of faith, a bold conservative, and the leader we need to unite the Republican conference. This has been a challenging process, but I am ready to get back to work on the many issues facing our nation and I believe Speaker Johnson is the right leader at the right time to advance our shared, conservative priorities on behalf of the American people

The senseless acts of violence and horror we have all watched unfold over the last several weeks show that Hamas’ cruelty knows no bounds. Israel has every right to continue defending itself from this act of pure evil, and America must stand with Israel.
I’ve had the distinct honor of visiting Israel on several occasions, and I believe the unwavering bond between our two nations can never be broken. That’s why I joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues in introducing a resolution expressing Congress’ support for Israel, which passed with overwhelming bipartisan support this week. As your Congressman and as a man of faith, I will continue to stand in solidarity with and pray for the people of Israel.

Defending a Critical Savannah River Site Mission
|
I spoke on the House floor in opposition to an amendment to H.R. 4394, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, offered by Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA), that would prohibit funding for plutonium pit production at the Savannah River Site (SRS).
Currently under construction at SRS is the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility. Required by law, this is part of a two-site strategy – with Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Savannah River Site tasked with producing plutonium pits to help improve resiliency and mitigate risk in the United States’ pit production. This shortsighted amendment would have critically threatened this urgent national security mission, but fortunately, the amendment failed on the House floor.
However, I was pleased to see the underlying bill, H.R. 4394, pass the House with my support. House Republicans are one step closer to fully funding the federal government through regular order.

The Biden border crisis continues to intensify. In September alone, there were nearly 270,000 illegal immigrant encounters at our Southern border—an over 300% increase from September 2020 and the highest single month ever recorded in history.
In May, House Republicans passed the Secure the Border Act, the strongest border security bill in history. My House Republican colleagues and I will not stop in our efforts to force President Biden to address the chaos at our southern border.

Biden's NLRB Finalizes Harmful Joint-Employer Standard
|
Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) finalized an expanded joint-employer standard that threatens the franchise model and negatively impacts the U.S. economy, workers, and small businesses.
At a time when workers and families are struggling to keep up with the inflationary reality of 'Bidenomics,' it is appalling that this administration is now saddling entrepreneurs with further roadblocks to achieving the American Dream.
With each passing day, it becomes more critical for Congress to pass my Employee Rights Act, which would provide much-needed clarity in determining joint-employer status and prevent franchise owners from becoming corporate middle-managers. American workers and small business owners want and deserve freedom and certainty, not more onerous and unworkable rulemakings.
