John, if your state isn’t holding elections this year, it’s understandable you’re not thinking about voting right now.
But here at Common Cause, we’re working year round to keep our elections working – including fielding Election Protection teams in states across the country this November!
That’s because our work is urgently needed to shield voters from the confusion, stress, and frustration that anti-voter tactics cause – like we saw in 2022 with discriminatory laws in Texas and Georgia, or last-minute vote-by-mail rollbacks in Wisconsin.
We saw a gap that needed to be filled – so we expanded our Protect the Vote campaign – our urgent response to GOP-led voter suppression laws and anti-democracy disinformation.
As part of this campaign, we’ve helped thousands of voters overcome new restrictions in states like Georgia and Florida, recruiting and training volunteers to work in elections across the nation.
And we’re not stopping anytime soon. Even in an off-year election cycle like this one, voters are facing barriers like Virginia’s recent removal of thousands of qualified voters from the rolls.
That’s where our Election Protection volunteers come in. Our volunteers are trained in their states’ unique voting rules. And they’re ready to help EVERY voter navigate the process and ensure their vote is counted.
In just a single shift, each Election Protection volunteer may help dozens of voters – and by doing so, they’re making a major difference to ensure that the millions of Americans who vote this year become repeat voters for life.
John, I’m inspired by how many Common Cause members have answered the call to become an Election Protection volunteer – volunteering hours of their time to fight voter suppression in their communities, ensuring every voter knows their rights, and vigorously pushing back against right-wing election denial.
Our volunteers are crucial in stopping attacks on our right to vote. But training and placing these volunteers is resource intensive. It costs $50 to train and place a single volunteer, who then is able to help dozens of voters. I know how important this work is, but we urgently need the resources to fund it.
Will you donate $50 – or whatever you can today – and sponsor an Election Protection volunteer?
Thank you for securing free and fair elections,
Sylvia Albert, Director of Voting and Elections
