Calling Out ALEC's Role in Promoting Shoot-First Vigilantism

This month, a Florida state senator introduced legislation to repeal the state’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law. In the 18 years since its passage, studies have shown that more Floridians are dying because of it. What’s less widely known is the pivotal role the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has played in ensuring the widespread adoption of such laws. Read the article here.

Join the campaign to get big corporations to put their money where their values are and stop enabling ALEC’s extreme agenda!

CMD Cited in New Report on Anti-Protest Laws

Our work was cited in a new report out from Greenpeace that details the draconian anti-protest laws that are muzzling climate protesters who are “putting their bodies on the line to keep our planet habitable.”

The report cites CMD’s extensive reporting on anti-protest laws as well as the Anti-Protest Lobby Tracker that we developed in conjunction with researcher Connor Gibson.

CMD Reveals Florida ALEC Lawmakers

This week, we also acquired and published new documents related to ALEC politicians operating in Florida, including an updated version of Florida’s legislative membership list as well as Florida’s registration list for the 2023 annual ALEC meeting. Updated lists of Florida’s ALEC members — as well as ALEC members in other states — can also be found at ALECExposed.org.

CMD’s Latest

This summer, a troupe of musicians dressed in tricorne hats and other colonial-era attire escorted a parade of Republican legislators and activists to a conventional hall in Colonial Williamsburg, where they would embark on an “immersive experience” — rewriting the U.S. Constitution. Read the article on the Right’s mock constitutional convention here.

Last month, a federal agency fined Georgia-Pacific, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, $1.2 million for abandoning a natural gas pipeline without notifying federal regulators and lying about work already completed once it did notify them. Read the article — “Koch Industries Forced to Pay $1.2 Million for its Latest Lies” here.
