This is the moment we’ve been waiting for:
Today’s the first day of our federal trial against True the Vote — and we’re ready to hold them accountable and prove our claim that their tactics in the January 2021 Runoff election constituted unlawful voter intimidation.
We’ll share some more details about the case in a moment. But first, we want to thank you — and ask if you can take another step to help fuel our programmatic work going forward.
Because of supporters like you across the country, we’re able to take on the critical and tireless work of pushing back against voter suppression. Thank you for everything you do to defend our democracy.
To show the undeniable strength of this pro-voter movement, we’re aiming to raise $7,500 in the next 24 hours. Will you pitch in $20 or any amount? Every donation brings us closer to hitting this goal and helps protect the freedom to vote.
Here’s a quick recap of why we’re suing True the Vote, and what could come next:
Our case focuses on the actions of True the Vote, a Texas-based organization that we contend brought anti-voter intimidation tactics to Georgia for our critical January 2021 runoff elections, which decided control of the U.S. Senate. After Black, brown, and young Georgians turned out in 2020 to vote in record numbers, we began hearing about True the Vote’s plans for the runoff elections and immediately became concerned about how those plans were likely to intimidate Georgia voters and stifle their political power. Fair Fight sprang into action to protect voters in the face to threats including:
- Challenges to hundreds of thousands of voters’ registration within days of an election based on unreliable methods;
- Efforts to recruit Navy SEALs and “citizen watchdogs” to patrol polling stations and surveil ballot drop boxes; and
- A $1 million reward we predicted would incentivize True the Vote’s supporters to report false allegations of voter fraud.
Voters are protected from intimidation and coercion under the Voting Rights Act, which is why we are taking legal action against True the Vote for its activity in the 2021 runoff elections. To protect voters around the state, we’re asking the court to order True the Vote to withdraw any pending voter eligibility registration challenges, to prohibit True the Vote from mounting any new challengers, and to require True the Vote to cease all operations in Georgia — including any poll-watching, poll-monitoring, or election-observing activities.
With trial beginning today, we’re one step closer to holding True the Vote accountable and securing relief to protect Georgia voters in future elections.
But no matter what comes next, we need to be prepared to address ongoing attempts of voter suppression, including additional mass challenges that can strip eligible voters from the rolls.
We will continue working to stop anti-voter extremists in their tracks, elect champions of democracy, and make sure voters have the resources to make their voices heard.
And we rely on grassroots supporters like YOU to sustain this work.
Please make a donation today to help hit our $7,500 goal in the next 24 hours, demonstrate the power of this pro-voter movement for the long haul, and defend the freedom to vote in 2023, 2024, and beyond.
Thank you for everything you do,
The Fair Fight Team
