Thanks to extremists in Congress, we are once again facing the threat of a government shutdown. The stopgap spending bill passed in September to keep the government funded expires on November 17th, and right-wing House members continue to force their damaging agenda on the American people.
Congress had months to work together and pass bipartisan FY2024 spending bills. Now, Republicans are demanding deep cuts to critical programs in exchange for keeping the government running.
If action isn’t taken to pass responsible funding millions of children and families could lose access to Head Start and WIC nutrition assistance, the processing of Social Security and disability applications could come to a halt, well over one million government employees could be furloughed, and food and worker safety inspections could be delayed and public health endangered.
