Friend,

Yesterday, we elected Mike Johnson of Louisiana to be the Speaker of the House. He has united our Conference around a plan to advance our conservative agenda by moving single-subject appropriations bills, supporting Israel, securing the border, and continuing serious oversight of the Biden Administration.

I am committed to delivering conservative results for Iowans and will work tirelessly to do so. Immediately following our vote to elect Mike as our Speaker, we passed legislation to show our support for Israel amid Hamas' barbaric attacks. We also began floor debate on our Energy and Water appropriations bill, a single-subject spending bill, as we work to fund the government in a fiscally conservative manner.

It is time to put the chaos and dysfunction in the rearview and get back to work!

Expanding Child Care Options

I frequently hear from Iowa families about the need to improve access to affordable child care options. I recently introduced the bipartisan After Hours Child Care Act, legislation that will expand child care options for parents who do not work traditional 9 to 5 hours, like nurses, firefighters, police officers, and dispatchers. It will also help establish on-site child care at workplaces to provide additional flexibility and choices for parents. These roles are essential to the health and safety of our communities, and the parents who fill them deserve access to quality, affordable child care options during their work hours.

I joined KCRG earlier this week to discuss the legislation and how it helps child care providers and families in Iowa. You can watch the full interview here.

Standing with Israel

It has been disturbing to witness pro-Hamas demonstrations across the United States, and even in Cedar Rapids, following Hamas' horrific terrorist attacks on Israel. That's why I joined my colleagues in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to probe pro-Hamas groups and protect Jewish communities amid this surge of anti-Semitic threats and calls for violence.

While the Department of Justice was quick to target concerned parents at school board meetings, they have not shown the same urgency here, despite a planned "Day of Rage" and other sickening calls for violence against Jewish Americans. This is unacceptable, and it is imperative that the DOJ take action to identify terrorist threats and combat anti-Semitism.

I will continue to stand with Israel and call out dangerous anti-Semitic rhetoric.

Meeting with the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau

In Iowa, crop insurance covers over 22 million acres and provides over $19.6 billion in protection. I enjoyed meeting with the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau to discuss the importance of bolstering crop insurance in the upcoming Farm Bill.

Meeting with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs

I had a great discussion with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Select Committee on the CCP Ranking Member Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Rep. Darin LaHood this week on the CCP’s hostility in the Indo-Pacific and strengthening our partnerships among freedom-loving nations to combat China’s malign global agenda.

Meeting with Northwestern Mutual

It was great to meet with advisors from Northwestern Mutual! Financial advisors help Iowans achieve their goals – from supporting their families, saving for retirement, or starting a new business. I’ll continue working on policies that promote financial literacy and security for families.
