NPP knocks doors statewide ahead of Nov. 7th election
The New Pennsylvania Project kicked off our Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts on Wednesday with a statewide launch that saw our canvassers knocking doors across eight counties in Pennsylvania - with more to come! Our organization's GOTV efforts will be focused on asking Pennsylvania voters to support Judge Dan McCaffery for PA Supreme Court while also asking voters to make their voices heard in all down-ballot races. Our GOTV activities includes; door-knocking, phone banking, a mail campaign, and text banking. All of our efforts will continue through Election Day on November 7th. #CourtsMatter
This year’s race for Allegheny County executive — in addition to swaying key policies around the jail, economic development, taxes and the environment — will provide the clearest picture yet of where the county and region are headed politically.
Republicans at the state and national level are still crying foul over Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s announcement last month that the state had adopted automatic voter registration at motor vehicle offices.
Members of the House State Government Committee voted to approve two bills – House Bill 976 and House Bill 979 – that would repeal the state’s closed primary system and allow unaffiliated voters to vote in primaries, something that is not currently allowed under Pennsylvania’s election law.
As the clock ticks closer to the November election, many college students and young eligible voters in Philadelphia aren’t registered to cast a ballot. And even when they are, many don’t come out to vote.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of State figures from October 23, Democrats continue to hold an advantage in registration over Republicans in the Commonwealth. There are 3.897 million registered Dems (45.0%) to 3.451 million registered GOP voters (39.9%). There are 952,707 registered voters with no affiliation (11.0%) and 345,397 voters registered with a myriad of other parties.
During Pennsylvania’s general election on Nov. 7, voters will select the newest state Supreme Court justice. The winner of the election will have considerable power over the interpretation of laws in the commonwealth, and will help determine the balance of the court in coming years.
On Nov. 7, Pennsylvanians will select a new judge for Commonwealth Court and two for Superior Court — and all of these new judges will immediately wield the power to referee legal disputes over state law and decide major criminal cases.
Across the state, depending on where you live, there might also be municipal races on the ballot, for offices like mayor and school board, along with ballot questions.
In addition to the above resources, the affiliated organization New PA Project Education Fund has a sample ballot locator that can be accessed here. Please note if you're county isn't currently listed, check back daily as we'll be adding links to those as counties make them available.
