Dear John,

We have a new Speaker of the House! Thankfully, the Republican Conference unanimously voted yesterday to elect Rep. Mike Johnson (LA) as the 56th Speaker. However, he was the first in many decades to be truly elected by the people’s representatives, to work and fight for regular Americans, instead of the special interests in Washington.

While the past three weeks were challenging with an admitted degree of risk and uncertainty, Speaker Johnson is the kind of person we were hoping to elect all along. In fact, he was a person that we had in mind as far back as a year ago, when we were first considering a challenge to former Speaker McCarthy’s election.

Mike Johnson is a strong Christian, whose faith truly guides and informs every area of his life. The speech we saw on the House Floor during yesterday’s swearing-in, was a reflection of the man whom I have observed and interacted during my nearly three years in Congress.

Speaker Johnson possesses the number one quality that is most important in a leader: trustworthiness, as demonstrated by his honesty and personal integrity. That is why the Republican Conference is more optimistic and united than we have been in many years.

Mike Johnson is also a solid conservative, who will be a partner in, rather than an obstruction to, our efforts to reduce our spending, secure our border, fight the weaponization of the government, and enact the policies for which voters like you entrusted us with the majority a year ago.

Finally, Speaker Johnson is a humble servant leader, who prayerfully answered the call to run and serve as Speaker.

While this is a truly momentous opportunity to change Washington, it is only a significant victory on the battlefield, in a much bigger war to save our country from those who seek to destroy it. The “swamp cartel” is not happy with Speaker Johnson’s election, or those of us who courageously created the vacancy in the Speaker’s chair. The special interests, lobbyists, and elite donors who are used to controlling Capitol Hill will not easily surrender their access to power.

That is why I need your help more than ever to give me the resources I need to discourage and defeat those who plan to run against me for the Republican nomination, and in the general election. Those allied with former Speaker McCarthy, whose own access to power has now been compromised, will ensure that money is no object for those candidates trying to unseat me.
