Dramatic Increase in U.S. Antisemitic Incidents Following Oct. 7 Hamas Massacre
Since the Hamas massacre in Israel on Oct. 7, the ADL Center on Extremism has recorded a significant spike in recorded antisemitic incidents across the United States. Preliminary data indicates that reported incidents of harassment, vandalism and assault increased by 388 percent over the same period last year.

Antisemitic Incidents and Anti-Israel Rallies in the U.S. Since Hamas’ Attack on Israel |
ADL recorded a total of 312 antisemitic incidents between Oct. 7-23, 2023, 190 of which were directly linked to the war in Israel and Gaza. An interactive map plotting where incidents have occurred in October 2023 can be found here.
ADL also tracked anti-Israel rallies since Oct. 7, which are included in the antisemitic incident totals. At least 109 rallies included or featured explicit or strong implicit support for Hamas and/or violence against Jews in Israel.
“When conflict erupts in Israel, antisemitic incidents soon follow in the U.S. and globally,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “From white supremacists in California displaying antisemitic banners on highway overpasses to radical anti-Zionists harassing Jewish people because of their real or perceived support for the Jewish state, we are witnessing a disturbing rise in antisemitic activity here while the war rages overseas.”
The rise in antisemitic incidents has not been limited to the U.S. See below for ADL data on the increase in other countries during the crisis.

International Incidents:
Reports of antisemitic incidents are up in many countries; from a 300% increase in Austria to a 641% spike in the UK, ADL’s International Affairs team has been tracking incidents from Hamas supporters and other antisemitic individuals who have threatened and targeted Jewish and Israeli people and institutions worldwide. Advancing the Ambassador:
Yesterday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee moved Jack Lew's nomination to become U.S. Ambassador to Israel out of Committee. We applaud this and we thank the thousands of people in the ADL community who have helped move this vital appointment forward through their outreach. Now, we urge the full Senate to swiftly bring this to a vote and we encourage wide bipartisan support. The U.S. must have an Ambassador in Israel during this time of crisis. It’s not too late for you to get involved. Use ADL’s outreach platform to
contact your Senators now to confirm the U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
Diplomatic Progress:
In contrast to some demonstrations of anti-Israel hate in the streets, ADL’s SVP for International Affairs Marina Rosenberg notes that “The statements and actions of European governments have exceeded expectations. Not only did every European Union and non-E.U. Western European state issue a clear condemnation, most explicitly supported Israel’s right to protect its citizens from the ongoing threat of Hamas terrorism.” Read the op-ed about
“The Good and Bad in the Global Response to Hamas’s War on Israel” from Rosenberg, a former Israeli ambassador.
Anti-Israel Activists:
The day after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and killed 1,400 people, and kidnapped at least 203 others (including Americans), anti-Israel activists flocked to rallies across the United States at which speakers and attendees openly celebrated the brutal attacks. Many of the groups organizing these rallies have a history of promoting classic antisemitic themes on social media, at rallies, on webinars and more. The ADL Center on Extremism takes a closer look at these groups.
