It’s been over 20 days since Kevin McCarthy gained the dubious distinction of being the first House Speaker ever to be ousted from the position. 

Chaos in the House ensued, but ultimately 220 Republicans stood up and voted for the Trump-loving, election-denying, democracy-hating Mike Johnson of Louisiana. 

Mike Johnson might not be as well known as MAGA mainstays like Jim Jordan or Steve Scalise but make no mistake, in choosing him, the GOP is sending us an important message: the anti-democracy extremists are in control and the American people will pay the price.

Mike Johnson is a serious threat to our democracy, and we need to make sure everyone knows how dangerous he truly is. Take a few minutes to spread the facts about Johnson.

Mike Johnson has a nasty little resume, and it’s clear why the House GOP was finally able to agree on electing him.

The New York Times called Johnson “the most important architect of the Electoral College objections,” a title he earned by leading the House Republicans’ amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn the will of voters in four battleground states. 

Not only that, he voted against certifying the 2020 election results, against establishing the January 6th investigative committee, the Freedom to Vote Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the Protecting Our Democracy Act. In fact, his voting was in line with Trump 93 percent of the time. 

With a record like that, we can expect Johnson to continue to pursue a far-right agenda that attacks our fundamental freedoms, including our freedom to vote, LGBTQ equality, and the right to access abortion care.  

The American people deserve a House Speaker who will legislate for us, not an election-denier obsessed with Trump and destroying democracy.  It’s up to us to call out the truth and resist the constant MAGA attacks on our fundamental freedoms.
