President's Message

According to the National School Nurse Workforce Study 2.0, more than a third of schools in the U.S. lack access to a full-time school nurse. School nurses are on the front lines, working tirelessly to support students, handling high rates of chronic diseases, and tackling the unprecedented mental health crisis among young people. Despite often working alone, school nurses remain steadfast in their commitment to the health and well-being of their school communities.

Recently, some of our members and I were interviewed for an article highlighting the role of and need for a school nurse to be present in every school all day, every day. With so many schools without a full-time school nurse, unlicensed school employees often provide care, and children’s attendance and learning can suffer.

As school nurses, advocacy is a crucial part of our work. We must speak up and speak out to maintain the momentum we have gained.
