John, Wisconsin Republicans have been so extreme in their efforts to seize unearned power that experts have referred to the state as a “democracy desert.”

Now, the Wisconsin GOP has proposed a so-called redistricting “reform” bill that’s really nothing more than another gerrymandering scheme designed to maximize an illegitimate partisan advantage. If passed, the bill would:

❌ Keep map drawing in the hands of politicians with histories of gerrymandering

❌ Allow the enactment of extreme gerrymanders, including near-supermajorities for Republicans in the legislature

❌ Lack any fallback measures in case the legislature fails to approve a map

Simply put, this bill would do nothing to stop Republicans in Wisconsin’s legislature from enacting a partisan gerrymander that would continue to lock in unearned political power for their own party while silencing and sidelining everyone else.

Or, as A.G. Holder so aptly put it, “Wisconsin Republicans just ain’t that into democracy.”
