Here’s what you need to know about Republicans’ new leader:

— He’s a climate change denier. Johnson has denied that climate change is a result of burning fossil fuels and pollution. Instead, he attributed it to “natural cycles over the span of the Earth’s history.”

— He’s in lockstep with Trump on election denial. He was the primary architect of an amicus brief that was signed by more than 100 House Republicans in support of a Texas lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 election results in four swing states.

— He’s one of Big Oil’s favorite members of Congress. Johnson has already taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil and gas industry during his very short career in the House. According to opensecrets.org, no one has given more money to Johnson than the oil and gas industry.
