It is a tremendous honor to serve every day as the first openly gay, elected federal representative in Illinois state history.

But it wasn’t that long ago, after my first job as a meteorologist in East Texas, that I experienced discrimination and was ultimately pushed out of my job for being gay.

It’s critical for any community, especially those underrepresented in our decision-making, to have people they can point to, to feel seen and know anything is possible with hard work and determination.

That’s just one of the many reasons why I hope you’ll support my friend Will Rollins for Congress.

Will (right) and his partner Paolo.

Few are so determined as my friend Will Rollins.

Will narrowly lost his first race despite being heavily outspent, but since then the district has registered 3,000 more Democrats than Republicans, and Will has the path to victory down. Now, that race is listed as a toss up and a critical swing seat to determine control of the House next November.

A win for Will is a win for getting stuff done in Congress, too. Will was the only Democratic challenger in California to win the majority of Independents in 2022. He will be committed to getting things passed with whoever is willing to keep our House in order.

And it’s personal for the well-being of the entire district - which, despite being home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the country, has watched as their representative has voted to strike down over $3 million for projects providing services to LGBTQ+ community members.

With two highly competitive races that could swing the House balance, I would really appreciate your support towards Will’s election and my re-election campaign. Will you please split a donation of $(ask) between me and Will Rollins today? Every dollar counts.
