Yesterday, House Republicans were finally able to come to an agreement and have officially selected a new Speaker of the House: Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
Don’t worry - we aren’t related. But if we were, I can tell you that our Thanksgiving dinners would be pretty contentious.
This is a guy who:

Wants to ban abortion nationwide
- Attempted to overturn the 2020 election and install Donald Trump
- Opposes equal rights for LGBTQ Americans
And Republicans just made him Speaker.
Jokes aside, for me and millions of other Americans, Mike Johnson being named Speaker is personal. If I’m elected, I’ll be the first openly gay person sent to Congress from the south. It’s a glass ceiling that should have been broken long ago - but because of people like the new Speaker of the House who believe LGBTQ folks should sit out of public life, my win would be historic.
We can’t allow this kind of extremism to become normalized. Democrats MUST take the House back next year. To do that, we need to keep Colin Allred’s seat blue.
