After 22 days, the House GOP finally elected a speaker: MAGA Republican Mike Johnson.

In his time in the House, Mike Johnson has solidified his role as Trump's puppet. Not only was he the main architect of the House effort to overturn the 2020 election, but he was also on Trump's legal defense team during both impeachments. As Speaker, he has made it clear that he intends to do everything in his power to ban abortion, same-sex marriage, and cut necessary programs Americans rely on.

I never thought that over the course of this year, I would get the opportunity to vote for Hakeem Jeffries more than 20 times. But even though the speaker race has come to a close, I know one thing for sure: Mike Johnson and the GOP are not fit to lead.

We’re facing an impending government funding deadline and international crises. It’s well past time for petty Republican infighting and extremism. We must take back the majority next year to stop their chaos and bring real leadership back to the House.
