Governor Lamont: Flags Lowered To Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Mass Shootings in Lewiston, Maine [[link removed]]

Posted on October 26, 2023

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that in accordance with a proclamation [[link removed]] from President Joe Biden directing flags to be lowered throughout the United States as a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the mass shootings last night in Lewiston, Maine, he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff effective immediately until sunset on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags, including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise, should also be lowered during this same duration of time.

“The news of these mass shootings last night in Maine is sickening and heartbreaking,” Governor Lamont said. “The growing number of mass shootings in our country is infuriating, and we cannot become complacent to this epidemic of gun violence. I applaud and thank the work of the first responders in their swift actions to protect our communities – here in Connecticut and throughout New England. The Connecticut State Police is prepared to address any threats to our local communities should they arise and stand ready to assist law enforcement in Maine if requested.”
