Hamas: Words and Deeds…

In its original 1988 charter, Hamas states that “There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad.” In a 2017 version of its charter, Hamas claimed to reject the “persecution of any human being or the undermining of his or her rights on nationalist, religious or sectarian grounds.” On October 7, 2023, it launched a terrorist attack that killed more than 1,300 people in Israel.

Ukrainian Corruption, Russian Corruption

Some skeptics of assistance to Ukraine have justified their position by pointing to the country’s ongoing issues with transparency, corruption, and rule of law. While American policymakers are obviously right to demand oversight and accountability, there is also broader context to consider.

Afghan Refugees Still in Limbo

Since the chaotic withdrawal of United States and Coalition forces in 2021, and the ensuing Taliban takeover, millions of Afghan refugees have fled or become displaced within the country. Afghan refugees are now the third largest displaced population in the world, with an estimated 8.2 million hosted in 103 different countries, and 3.2 million internally displaced within Afghanistan.

Indian Sikhs, Canadian Sikhs

As a percentage of overall population, there are more Sikhs in Canada than in India.

Tensions between Canada and India came to a head recently when Prime Minister Trudeau alleged that the Indian government was involved to some degree in the murder of a Sikh activist in Canada. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an outspoken supporter of the formation of Khalistan, an independent Sikh homeland in India, was gunned down outside of a Sikh cultural center in British Columbia.
