Delays in transferring patients from paramedics to hospital staff’s care had “over 18” ambulances and crews stalled at the Ottawa Hospital’s General campus recently, the Professional Paramedic Association of Ottawa said.
The paramedic units from across Eastern Ontario were “stuck inside (and) outside” managing the emergency-room bound patients, the association shared via social media.

At the county council meeting last week (Feb. 26th) staff and elected representatives were told about some of the challenges local paramedics are facing by ApexPro consultant Marvin Rubenstein. The Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus tasked Rubenstein to look paramedic services in the region following changes announced last year by the provincial government that would see a reduction from 59 to 10 paramedic services.

Police are investigating after a green laser strike injured a pilot and paramedic aboard a Ornge air ambulance helicopter.
The aircraft had just dropped off a patient at the Hospital for Sick Children on Feb. 15 just before 9 p.m. and was heading back to its base at Billy Bishop Airport when it was struck by the laser in the area of Richmond and Sherbourne Sts., said Ornge spokesman Joshua McNamara.

Paramedics looking to upgrade their skill level will no longer have to leave Newfoundland and Labrador for training.
The provincial government announced recently it is adding an advanced-care paramedicine program at the College of the North Atlantic in St. John's and Stephenville.
The St. John's campus will have 12 seats available this fall, and add another 12 in 2021. Stephenville will also have 12 seats available in the fall of 2021.

The union that represents ambulance workers is warning that the planned closure of the lone ambulance station in North Burnaby will mean slower response times for patients.
B.C. Emergency Health Services told crews last week they were being moved from Station 248 on Douglas Road near Boundary Road to a new station, Station 240, built last year at 5901 Delesalle St. in the Royal Oak area.

Hastings-Quinte paramedics are poised to take part in another research study.
Chief of Paramedics Doug Socha tells Quinte News it is a feasibility study for training paramedics in the administration of Penthrox, through inhalation, for emergency pain relief in conscious adult patients.
It is being carried out by Dr. Michael Austin of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Socha says the pain control is normally done by using needles.
