Taking its name from the Sinhala word for “struggle,” the Aragalaya movement emerged in March 2022, when thousands of Sri Lankans from diverse ethnicities, religions, generations, and social classes came together to collectively protest and demand political change and accountability for economic crimes.

Freedom House is pleased to announce that Wendell L. Willkie, II will join former Congresswoman Jane Harman as co-chair of the Freedom House Board of Trustees. Willkie is the grandson of Wendell L. Willkie, who partnered with Eleanor Roosevelt and other leaders to spearhead Freedom House’s founding in 1941.
