Hi John,

Now that the UK has left the EU our environment is no longer protected by many of the European laws that we've had for the past 40 years. The good news is that the government has introduced a new environment bill to address that; the bad news is that it's nowhere near strong enough.

As it stands, the current bill doesn't do enough to protect our air, rivers and forests. And what's worse, most of the short-term commitments won't be legally binding, so can be broken with little consequence.

We need to act fast and save British nature by creating strong laws that will protect our natural environment for generations to come. Can you spare a few minutes and email your MP?

British nature is in trouble - with fish stocks on the brink of collapse, 15 per cent of wildlife species under threat from extinction, plastic pollution not being dealt with and toxic air quality cutting short thousands of people's lives every year.

We don't have time to waste, and we need bold and uncompromising measures to reverse the declining state of our nature.

With a strong environment bill, requiring ambitious legally binding short and long term targets, we could protect birds, bees, trees and seas across Britain.

The last environment act was created in 1995. Opportunities to safeguard our nature will rarely come up in parliament in the near future, and given the urgency of the nature crisis, this might be our last chance to set things on track.

To win this we'll need as many MPs from across the country to turn up the heat on our Environment Secretary.

We need MPs to remind George Eustice that he needs to push through an ambitious bill that protects our nature, and creates short-term milestones that are legally binding and can't be broken.

If you and other Greenpeace supporters email your MP, we can get hundreds of MPs piling the pressure on Mr Eustice. He'll feel the pressure and be under no illusion that a weak bill won't be very popular.

It will take you just a few minutes to send an email to your MP, but the impact could last for generations to come. Will you email your MP?

Thanks for all that you do,

Aakash
