John, earlier today, the House of Representatives voted in a new Speaker of the House: Representative Mike Johnson.

Who is Mike Johnson?

Mike Johnson is a loud, proud MAGA supporter — and an even louder voice in the attempt to overturn the Presidential election results in 2020. His shocking beliefs include support for total abortion bans, which shows just how extreme today’s GOP has become.

It’s as simple as this: Instead of putting the interests of the American people first, Republicans in Congress are forcing an extremist agenda most Americans oppose. This isn’t true leadership or service.

I want to take this moment to assure you: Maryland will continue to lead the way on protecting reproductive rights. I am proud to have signed a historic bill earlier this year to protect the rights of all Marylanders and expand abortion access — and I will continue to fight to enshrine those rights into our state constitution.
The people of Maryland and across the nation deserve a functioning government and true leadership at all levels of government. I urge elected officials in Congress to lead with humility and grace for the issues facing Americans today, instead of playing political games and enabling extremists.
