I want to update you on redistricting in North Carolina and where things stand. 

Last year, the court drew fair maps for North Carolina that ensured an equal representation of 7 Republicans and 7 Democrats from our state in Congress. Today, Republicans in the NCGA have forced grossly gerrymandered maps through the legislature.

Here’s the truth: These new maps are intended to guarantee the outcome of Congressional elections in our state - sending at least 10 or 11 Republicans to Congress and only 3 Democrats.

John, I won a 50/50 district in 2022 because North Carolina voters had a real chance to make their voices heard and pick the candidate with the best ideas. But for now, I don’t want to give these maps credibility by announcing a run in any of these gerrymandered districts. I’ll make a decision about running for office once the courts have spoken. 

These maps are an extreme partisan gerrymander by Republican legislators that totally screw the voters. It’s time to sue the bastards.
