After weeks of infighting, Republicans have finally found a new Speaker.
But this time, the GOP has elevated someone even MORE extreme than their last picks: Rep. Mike Johnson.
Johnson took the helm as the LEAD organizer of an amicus brief, eventually endorsed by 125 additional House Republicans, in support of the Texas-led lawsuit asking the Supreme Court to intervene in the vote counting in key swing states Biden won.
Rep. Johnson actively led a lawsuit that would have INVALIDATED the election results in four key states.
But instead of facing consequences for his baseless attacks on our democracy that ultimately led to the Jan. 6 insurrection, today’s GOP just handed him the Speaker’s gavel.
Picture this: it’s 2024 and Johnson is holding the Speaker’s gavel and using it to challenge election results that don’t look good for Donald Trump.
The outcome could be unthinkable, John.
