Folks,

Republican Rep. Mike Johnson was just elected House Speaker. His record speaks for itself:

- Led attempts to overturn the 2020 election by organizing Republican attorney generals to contest the results.
- Served on Trump’s legal defense in both impeachments.
- Currently co-sponsoring three national abortion bans.
- Wants to ban same-sex marriage.
- Notes his #1 priority is cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

Why this matters:

1. The House will be charged with certifying the results of the 2024 elections, and it is now being helmed by a man who has proudly sought to install an illegal Trump-led autocracy. This is the Republican Party showing once and for all that they support dismantling our democracy.

2. The rise of Mike Johnson reflects what Republicans represent: an agenda focused on restricting civil rights. Young voters aren’t compelled by this agenda and it can be expected that there will be an increase in mobilization as Johnson pushes unacceptable policy to the House floor.

3. The embrace of an unqualified extremist is a strong sign that the Republican party has no interest in governing in a bipartisan manner. They will continue to push for extreme, unpopular policies that do not serve all Americans.
It’s become abundantly clear: We must take back control of the House in 2024.

We know that young Latino support for Democrats has remained stable at 67-70% yet only about 24% of them are turning out to vote. This represents a massive opportunity of millions more young people we could turn out. And that could make the difference when it comes to saving our democracy.

Will you chip in today to help defeat extremist Republicans in 2024?

The good news is that we know pro-choice Latinos will be one of the most critical voting blocs in 2024. Nearly half of all Latinas in the United States live in the 26 states that have banned or are likely to ban abortion. That makes Latinas the largest group of women of color in the country impacted by abortion restrictions. More than three-quarters of young Latinos support federal legislation to protect reproductive freedom.

There are 4.1 million young Latinos who will turn 18 before next November's election, many of whom live in critical battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Our voices could decide control of the House, Senate, and White House in 2024 — but only if these young people get registered and mobilized to vote.

Will you help support our cause?
