POLL: VIRGINIANS TRUST YOUNGKIN AND REPUBLICANS ON KEY ISSUES IN THIS ELECTION

ICYMI: Governor Glenn Youngkin’s approval rating continues to set records in Virginia as he goes all-in to help Republicans hold the House and flip the Senate in less than two weeks. 

According to a recent Washington Post poll, 54% of Virginians approve of Youngkin’s job as governor. That is the highest approval rating for a Virginia governor in the Post poll in more than a decade.

The Washington Post also confirms what other polls have found – that Governor Youngkin is far more popular among Virginians than President Joe Biden. 

While Virginia Democrats have relied on Joe Biden as their lead surrogate and for fundraising, Youngkin holds an 11-point lead over Biden in approval rating among Virginians – 54% for Youngkin compared to 43% for Joe Biden. 

Among independents, Youngkin’s advantage is even more pronounced. Youngkin’s 57% approval rating among independent voters in Virginia is more than 20 points higher than Biden’s meager 36% approval rating.

The reason for Youngkin’s record approval rating is self-evident in the Post poll. Virginians give Youngkin and Virginia Republicans high marks on the key issues they have centered their agenda and campaigns around – the economy, education, and public safety.  

ECONOMY

Governor Youngkin and Virginia Republicans have delivered more than $5 billion in tax relief in less than two years. Over 230,000 more Virginians are working today compared to when Youngkin took office, and more Virginians are working than ever before. Youngkin's pro-growth policies have attracted iconic companies to relocate their businesses and the jobs that come with them to Virginia.

As a result, Virginians trust Republicans more than Democrats on the economy by 12 points – 49% to 37%. Among independents, Republicans hold a 27-point lead – 54% to 27%. 

EDUCATION 

Governor Youngkin and Virginia Republicans have also made it a priority to put parents back at the head of the table in their children’s education and upbringing, with more control for parents over what their kids are learning at school and more transparency in the classroom. Youngkin has also surged resources to improve attendance, literacy, and learning in Virginia schools. 

Among parents with a child in public school, 51% approve of Youngkin’s handling of education. 

PUBLIC SAFETY

Governor Youngkin and Virginia Republicans have restored support for law enforcement, with pay raises and the resources they need to keep Virginia safe. Youngkin’s Operation Bold Blue Line has made significant progress in protecting our communities from criminals and deadly drugs like fentanyl. 

Virginians trust Republicans more than Democrats on crime and public safety by 13 points – 49% to 36%. Among independents, Republicans hold a 30-point lead – 55% to 25%.  

The Washington Post poll is the latest indication that Youngkin’s commonsense, conservative leadership around lowering the cost of living, empowering parents, and supporting law enforcement is resonating with Virginians. 

Youngkin is putting his record approval rating to work for Virginia Republicans, traveling across the Commonwealth to rally support for House and Senate candidates in the final weeks of this election. 

The closing message is simple: If you want to advance the progress we’ve made in Virginia over the last two years under Governor Youngkin, then elect leaders to the General Assembly who will work with him to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
