David Schweikert + Mike Johnson = birds of a right-wing feather. Here are a few things that are critical for you to know about Mike Johnson:
- Mike Johnson’s role in the January 6th Capitol insurrection: Like Schweikert, Johnson was one of the members of Congress who objected to the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, attempting to subvert democracy and steal the election.
- Johnson wants a total ban on abortion: Like Schweikert, Johnson pushed for a total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the woman and voted for legislation that would punish doctors for providing reproductive care to patients.
- Johnson is an anti-LGBT bigot: Like Schweikert, Johnson voted against the Equality Act and Respect for Marriage Act. He has said that same-sex marriage is a "threat to the American family" and called homosexuality an “inherently unnatural” and “dangerous lifestyle.”
- Johnson is a climate change denier: Like Schweikert, Johnson has repeatedly denied the reality of climate change.
This is who David Schweikert just voted to be second-in-line to the presidency. Mike Johnson – someone who shares Schweikert’s extremist, science-denying, election-rigging, homophobic record. That’s who the Republican party chose as its leader in 2023.
The only way we can oust Mike Johnson is by winning back the Democratic House Majority, and that starts right here in Arizona’s First Congressional District. This is the KEY RACE in the KEY STATE in the 2024 election.
