Happy Wednesday!

This morning, like every morning, I got out of bed, grabbed a cup of coffee, and I flipped on the news, and here's what I heard:

"Breaking News: House Republicans have decided to select a speaker with a mass game of Rock Paper Scissors.

"But, in true GOP fashion, the caucus is divided on whether to allow competitors to use the special 'dynamite' move."

Luckily, that was just a bad dream!

But as today unfolded it turned out that reality was scarier than my nightmare.

House Republicans elected Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana to be Speaker of the House today. And I can hear you asking the same question I asked when I heard the news: Who the heck is Mike Johnson? So, here are some fast facts:

Johnson was an architect of the plan to overturn the 2020 election;

He wants to criminalize abortion and impose a national ban;

He opposes LGBTQ+ rights;

He supports ending Social Security and Medicare as we know it;

He advocated against the anti-bullying Day of Silence;

He supported Donald Trump's Muslim Ban;

And as the leader of one of the most far-right caucuses in Congress, he defended the publication of materials to aid in so-called conversion therapy.

Who is Mike Johnson? He's an extremist — just like Jim Jordan, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Green, Matt Geatz, and others — but without the national profile.

Last night, Republicans rallied around a new extremist speaker nominee and slid him into the job before the rest of the country even had time to learn his name. Proving again how extreme Republicans have become, how far they have moved from rural values and voters, and how little they respect the American people.

We are not going to stand by and watch this happen. The One Country Fund was started to take on far-right extremists, connect with rural communities and voters, and to fight for a Democratic majority in the House. Can you chip in $19 today and help us fight for the House and ensure that Mike Johnson won't be speaker for much longer? [[link removed]]

We're in this fight for the long haul and we need your support today.
