John,
As I'm sending you this email, the House just finished voting on new district maps. While there are a lot of unknowns moving forward, one thing is clear: this set of maps is designed to secure a majority for the GOP no matter how people vote. Our redistricting maps should always be responsive to voters, but once again, the GOP has chopped up our communities, separating our neighbors out from one another in order to override the will of the people.
For as long as I've been in politics, we've been having this fight against a GOP trying to cling to power by any means necessary. Every chance they get, they do everything they can to draw the lines to lock Democrats out of power. Well, it's down to brass tacks, and if we're going to overcome these gerrymanders for good, we need to put together a coalition that can overcome these lines.
And that means we need statewide candidates who can activate voters in communities that haven't voted for Democrats in a very long time.
I've been trying my best to be that candidate, if I can. I've spent the last few months crisscrossing our state, getting out to every possible community that I can. So far, I've visited forty-five of our state's counties on the campaign trail, from Cherokee to Carteret, including places like Surry and Swain, McDowell and Mitchell, Pender, Pasquotank, Robeson and Rutherford. Once upon a time, Democrats could run and win in every single one of those counties—but we've taken those voters for granted, and now most have dismissed them as being out of reach.
But I think they deserve better. Right now, neither party is fighting for our rural communities the way they need, and I'm on a mission to change that.
So if you believe that people should choose our elected officials, not the other way around, and if you believe in reaching every voter we can so we can overcome these gerrymandered maps, I'm asking you to chip in to my campaign today so that we can keep getting out to every corner of NC and flip our state blue.

The road ahead won't be easy, but I know that if we stick together, we can overcome even these gerrymandered maps.
Take care,
Wesley Harris
