I hope you are getting out and soaking up some autumn sunshine! It was so fun to kick off the fall with our Mixer last month. If you missed it, check out photos here. Beyond coming out to our big fundraisers like the Fall Mixer, so far, almost 400 of you have joined us for meet-ups at local businesses across the region in 2023. We've also had the chance to partner with several amazing organizations that are all doing vital work to make the Washington region greater.

Readers and Writers Happy Hour

Connect with everyone from Breakfast Links curators to GGWash staff and writers, chat about your favorite stories, and maybe even learn how to become a contributor yourself.
Planners of Color Meet-up Thursday, November 9, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Shanklin Hall; 2325 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 This November, GGWash is making space for planners, advocates, and other community leaders of color to connect and meet other folks who are engaged with centering equity in housing, transportation, and land-use policy. This space is offered to any planning or planning-adjacent professional who identifies as a person of color. Make sure to sign up to stay in the loop! November Ward 1.5 Meet-up Sunday, November 19, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Grand Duchess, 2337 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 Meet others who want to see more housing, more affordable housing, fewer trips by car, and the land-use regulations necessary to support the above—plus, hear what GGWash is working on, particularly in northwest D.C., and what you can do to get involved. |

| Ward 8 Woods Conservancy
Ward 8 Woods restores and advocates for urban forests East of the River. In their first five years, they removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and saved almost 6,000 trees from invasive vines. You can sign up to receive updates on their work here.
Unfortunately, the Ward 8 Woods team lost two team members over the summer, current Park Steward OT Henderson and former Park Steward Chuck Jenkins. Your donation at this difficult time will help Ward 8 Woods assist OT and Chuck's families with funeral expenses, support their remaining staff, and hire new Park Stewards to continue the hyperlocal environmental work they do so well.

Citizens Climate Lobby
Citizens Climate Lobby is a national organization working to empower everyday people to take action to pass climate change policy. The DC chapter connects folks from across DC with each other and ways to take action on climate change. You can learn about what they are currently working on by checking out their Facebook page. |

| DC Greens DC Greens is a Black-led, multiracial organization that uses the power of equitable food policy, education, and access to build a more just and resilient food system in our nation's capital. They envision a city where each of us has the ability to shape the policies and institutions that have an impact on our wellbeing.
You can learn more about DC Greens, including how to get involved and support their fight for food justice, by signing up for email updates or giving them a follow on Facebook or Instagram. They are also always looking for volunteers to help out at “The Well” their educational farm and wellness space in Ward 8.

| Spur Local
Spur Local, formerly the Catalog for Philanthropy, is a local organization that works to create a stronger, more resilient, and more equitable region by cultivating critical connections between residents and the nonprofits in their neighborhoods. Each year they produce a publication featuring nearly 100 local non-profits that are doing critical work to make the Washington Region greater. You can learn more about their work here and mark your calendars for their “Community Changemakers” celebration at Hook Hall on November 8.

Our Breakfast Links Curators kickstart each day at GGWash, working with our editors to select six to 10 engaging stories that provide a snapshot of recent local urbanist news. We've filled all of our regular Breakfast Links slots, and now we're looking for alternates! If you want to help us out but can't commit to a regular weekly shift, this is your moment.

GGWash is able to keep publishing great content thanks to the community members who write for us. We're looking for pitches from volunteer contributors and also have a limited number of paid freelance opportunities available. Have a specific idea for a story? We periodically ask you to confirm your address so that we can reach out to you about specific housing developments, transportation projects, volunteer opportunities, electoral work, or any other number of other things that are relevant because you live close to where they're happening. | GGWash policy staff testify at DC traffic safety hearing
Alex Baca, Kai Hall, and Caitlin Rogger recently testified at a DC Council hearing on behalf of GGWash, as well as two coalitions we manage, the DC Transportation Equity Network and DC Sustainable Transportation, in favor of four traffic safety bills. This fall, GGWash is thrilled to have Maya Hopkins, Dean Howell, Adriana Vance and Paul Medvetsky as our interns. As we work toward our vision of the Washington region, it is critical to make sure the next generation of leaders is at the table, and we're excited to have these rising leaders join our team.
