Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was elected as speaker of the House Wednesday afternoon, ending a 22-day stalemate in the lower chamber.

Johnson was the fourth speaker-designate selected by House Republicans in the weeks since Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was removed from the speakership. The Louisiana Republican secured 220 votes to clinch the speakership, gaining the unanimous support of the GOP conference.
