Republicans just elected the most extreme, far-right speaker in modern
history. 

There’s a lot we could say about Mike Johnson -- he played a key role in
the effort to overturn the 2020 election (crafting the bunk legal theory
behind decertification), desperately wants to end Social Security as we
know it, and supports a total, no exception ban on abortion nationwide. 

But the more important thing is what his election says about the
Republican Party and its continued slide toward extremism, embrace of
election denialism, and disinterest in serving the public in any way.  

This should be a clarifying moment for voters everywhere: The GOP doesn’t
care about our democracy. And we shouldn’t let them run any part of it.
