Justice Amy Coney Barrett calls for Supreme Court ethics reform

Whitehouse for Senate

Team,

Justice Amy Coney Barrett has joined the growing chorus of justices expressing public support for a real ethics code at the Supreme Court.

Speaking about adopting a more stringent code of ethics, the Republican appointee said: “it would be a good idea for us to do it, particularly so that we can communicate to the public exactly what it is that we are doing in a clearer way…

Well, team, then what’s the hold up? Are Justices Thomas and Alito standing in the way? Justice Thomas has a long history of accepting undisclosed vacations from billionaires. Justice Alito has had his own ethical lapses, and he's (improperly — its own ethics problem) expressed hostility toward the idea of Congress creating a binding code of ethics at the Court.

But it's clear that an ethics-free Supreme Court has not been serving the American people well.

It's time to bring the Supreme Court into line with other branches of government and other federal judges. Can you contribute today towards my re-election campaign so I can continue my work in the Senate to get an enforceable code of ethics over the finish line?

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
