Putting #PeopleOverPolitics
Jim wrote an op-ed about how today’s voter suppression tactics remind him of the tactics that were used in the Jim Crow South [[link removed]] to shut out Black Americans from public life. Democrats are working to ensure we do not repeat history -- they introduced a bill named after the late Congressman John Lewis that would restore and modernize the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and combat voter suppression.
“[John Lewis and I] reflected on the efforts that we had undertaken as college students... We were reminded of the years when our Black brothers and sisters, especially those in the South, were subjected to indignities such as being required to answer questions like how many jellybeans were in a jar and being subjected to literacy tests to cast a ballot… Enacting the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would make a statement to the people of this country that this august body believes in the sacred promise of ‘a more perfect Union.’”
- Congressman Jim Clyburn
From the Headlines
The U.S. added 336,000 jobs in September, [[link removed]] continuing to beat market expectations. That’s 32 consecutive months of job growth under the Biden Administration! And that’s not the only record our economy is breaking -- the unemployment rate has remained below 4% for the longest stretch in 50 years.
On the Ballot 2024
The recent chaos among House Republicans -- including barely avoiding a government shutdown and their decision to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House while struggling to agree on his successor -- is a stark reminder of the GOP’s inability to govern and the importance of flipping the House next year so we can put Democrats back in charge. But John -- we can’t do it without supporters like you getting involved. Your contributions support our efforts to elect Democrats across the country. [[link removed]]

Jim spoke about the dysfunction among House Republicans on “Morning Joe” and why McCarthy made it impossible for Democrats to come to his rescue when his own party decided to remove him as Speaker.
