L&I continues to cover prior COVID-19 claim costs and is not including these costs in the calculation of the 2024 rates.Early in the pandemic, the agency decided that COVID-19 claims would not affect employers' future rates while under a state of emergency. *Washington's minimum wage is increasing?*
Washington?s minimum wage is going up to $16.28 an hour effective Jan. 1, 2024, a 3.4 percent increase over 2023. Cities can set minimum wages higher than the state. Seattle, SeaTac, and Tukwila, have higher wages. The state minimum wage applies to workers age 16 and older. Under state law, employers can pay 85 percent of the minimum wage to workers ages 14-15. For 2024, the wage for that younger group will be $13.84 per hour.?
L&I updated the rules for exempt workers in 2020, creating an eight-year implementation schedule [ [link removed] ] that incrementally raises the multiplier until it reaches 2.5 times in 2028. The pace of the increase is based on the size of the employer.
