Hi there,
You may know me from TV and movies, but today I’m popping into your inbox to team up with Fair Fight, as they work to protect and expand the freedom to vote in upcoming elections.
I’m a proud Latina, and I’ve seen firsthand how our community has too often been ignored and silenced. That’s why I co-founded Poderistas, a non-profit organization created by and for Latinas to engage our communities in key elections and ignite social change throughout the nation.
Latinas are CEOs of workplaces. We’re the backbone of our households. We make important decisions for ourselves and our families. And yet, we make up less than 2 percent of elected officials nationwide, and we face persistent barriers to accessing the ballot box — because some extremist politicians fear the power we hold.
I believe it’s our collective duty to continue fighting for a democracy that includes and values each of us, and that’s the work Fair Fight is doing day in and day out. Before I tell you more, I’m asking you to pitch in to ensure that Fair Fight can continue building voting power for and electing people of color — in Georgia and beyond.
Our vote determines our futures. And by shutting us out of the voting process, extremists are denying us a fair say in the issues that directly affect us, from the makeup of our school boards to our access to reproductive healthcare. They know exactly what they’re doing because they’ve seen how Latinas have influenced — or even determined — the outcomes of past elections.
But the issue goes deeper. We can advocate against voter suppression laws and have all the voter registration drives we want, but until storytelling about who Latinas are and what we’re worth begins to change, we’re going to continue fighting an uphill battle.
We need our leaders to invest in our communities, invest in hearing our stories, and invest in our futures.
Fair Fight is an important ally in that mission. Through voter mobilization, education, and advocacy, they put marginalized voices at the forefront of their efforts to protect the freedom to vote, they help elect diverse pro-voter candidates, and they combat the voter suppression that has become so rampant in Georgia and across the country.
There’s a lot at stake in this year’s local and statewide elections, and in next year’s presidential election cycle, so today I’m asking you to pitch in anything you can to fuel Fair Fight’s work toward a stronger, more inclusive democracy.
Together, sí se puede. Thank you for your support!
