In the wake of the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, Americans have seen unequivocally how destructive the far left and the far right have become. Our nation is strongest when we stand behind the idea that America is a force for good in a dangerous world.

These past few weeks have been both horrifying and clarifying.

In the wake of the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, Americans have seen unequivocally how destructive the far left and the far right have become.

One side sees this tragedy as an excuse to attack Jews, the other as a pretext to sow fear of immigrants. At a moment of maximum danger for America – demanding America’s moral leadership and strength – the left pushes us to abandon Israel while the right pushes us to abandon Ukraine.

Extremists on the right, like Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, and on the left, like the members of the “The Squad,” have more in common than they think.

They may offer different flavors of intolerance, but they’re both equally hostile to anyone who doesn’t think like they do. They both believe the “means justify the ends” in getting whatever they want. And they both spend their days sowing division at a moment when America urgently needs to be united.

Both the far right and left have been enabled by leaders – in our political parties, in our businesses and in academia – who should know better.

Enough.

All across America, the commonsense majority is waking up. We believe in freedom of speech and expression, which means Americans have the right to say what they want, but leaders also have a responsibility to clearly articulate their positions and define the values of this nation.

Our nation is strongest when we stand behind the idea that America is a force for good in a dangerous world, for decency and civility here at home and for equality and opportunity everywhere.

This is what the Commonsense Majority wants and what we’re demanding from the political leaders who lead this country.

As these chaotic and shocking past few weeks make clear, our work to unite our country is more important than ever before. Let us come together as the Commonsense Majority and work toward a united America that stands for the values of decency, civility, equality, opportunity and humanity, at home and abroad.
