VIDEO OF THE DAY: Mark Meadows granted immunity, tells special counsel he warned Trump about 2020 claims
Trump's former chief of staff has flipped and inked an immunity deal with the Justice Department in return for testifying about the MAGA camp's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. So far he has testified on at least three occasions, including once in front of a grand jury. As Trump's Chief of Staff during the lead up to the attack on January 6th, this is absolutely devastating for Trump and his team. How long before Donald claims that he never even met the man he once described as a "special friend?"

George Santos wheels out a jaw-dropping whopper about Chinese Communist kidnapping plot
We regret to announce that Golden Globe-winning rugby star and inventor of coffee, George Santos, is officially back on his bullshit again. Santos claims that his five-year-old niece was kidnapped by the Chinese Communist Party from a playground in Queens, because Santos is just soooooo tough on China. "Look, I don't want to go into like, conspiracy theory," says Santos, who loves going into conspiracy theory and also happens to be *charged* with conspiracy. "But if the shoe fits..." A high-ranking NYPD official told the New York Times that the shoe did not fit and there is zero evidence any of this happened. [RETWEET THAT!]

Mike Johnson clinches GOP House speaker nomination hours after Tom Emmer drops out
The clown car crashed once again as Republicans chose their latest nominee for speaker, Tom Emmer, only for him to withdraw his name just FOUR HOURS LATER after it became clear that extremist Republicans wouldn't vote for him over his support for gay rights and moderate Republicans wouldn't vote for him for his election denial (Tom Emmer is truly a land of many contrasts). He was quickly replaced by some bozo named Mike Johnson, a Louisiana rep who spearheaded the efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Congress. Will he be able to make it to 217? How many more names of increasingly awful scumbag Republicans are we going to have to learn? Only time will tell. [RETWEET THAT!]

Georgia Supreme Court upholds draconian six-week abortion ban
The court — which is composed entirely of justices appointed by Republican governors — ruled that the state's horrifying theocratic ban on abortions "once a detectable human heartbeat" is present will remain in place. For now at least, the law allows for exceptions in the case of incest, rape, or if the mother's life is in danger. If Republicans get their way, even those exceptions will be carved away eventually. The GOP's political project aims for nothing less than a complete ban on all forms of abortion everywhere.

Virginia GOP sends voters "explicit" flier attacking Democrat Susanna Gibson
Proving once again that there truly is no bottom — and if there is they'll simply jackhammer right through it — the Republican Party has been caught sending flyers to voters that include explicit content about Democratic candidate Susanna Gibson, who is being publicly slut-shamed for engaging in light kink with her husband on a pornographic streaming site. The envelopes were emblazoned with "EXPLICIT MATERIAL" and included alleged screenshots and quotes from Gibson about sex, as well as excerpted text from news stories on the "scandal." Trashy does not even begin to describe the behavior of Virginia's Republican Party here.

Out of Zionism, an essay by Jonathan M. Katz
A Personal Note: In my Hebrew school class growing up, Jonathan was clearly both the smartest and most pro-Israel among us. He was the only one who spoke Hebrew with an Israeli accent even though he'd not yet visited. My wonderful rabbi told him he'd be the smartest person in any room he'd ever enter. Today, his journalistic resume reads like a rundown of the most revered mainstream and progressive publications in America.
Here he describes his journey away from zionism with profound insight, ironclad support, and captivating vulnerability. While that journey is unique, its path is not unlike my own as I now grieve the unspeakable atrocities inflicted on my fellow Jews on Oct 7 while aching for the horrors raining down on Palestinians in response. I feel rage at the justifications for Israel's and Hamas's carnage; intense sadness for the growing antisemitism and Islamophobia here and around the world. As a Jew who grew up with my Holocaust survivor grandmother, 3 generations removed from pogrom refugees, I have always been painfully aware that our place in any country is never secure, never permanent. At the same time, I cannot stomach the thought of similarly persecuting another people in pursuit of security.
To me, these feelings are morally consistent, and I cannot describe the pain of knowing loved ones view them as hypocritical, even harmful — on both sides. At this terrible time, this essay brings some clarity, or at the very least, food for thought. I hope you'll give it a read.

Corporate jagoffs have no place in Congress
Chris Deluzio for Congress: Rep. Deluzio represents one of the most critical swing districts in the country — in Western PA. He's not shying away from holding big corporations accountable and standing up for the little guy who for too long has been ripped off by the rich and powerful. Republicans are coming for Chris but you can help send him back to Congress. Will you chip in to help get him re-elected?
Michael Cohen testifies against his former boss Donald Trump to his face
The disgraced former president's ex-fixer sold Trump out in the massive civil fraud case and revealed at length the ways in which Trump regularly lied and defrauded others by arbitrarily inflating the value of his assets. Of course, the cult of Donald will continue insisting that he is a brilliant, honest businessman because at this point Trump himself could admit that he's a crook and they'd still deny it.
Meta sued by 42 attorneys general alleging Facebook, Instagram features are addictive and target kids
The social media leviathan is accused of designing its Facebook and Instagram products to keep young users on them for longer and repeatedly coming back, despite knowing about the harmful psychological effects their products have on the mental health — not to mention attention spans — of the children they're hooking. It's a historic, long-overdue lawsuit that we may look back on as the modern equivalent of the legal battle against tobacco companies.
DeSantis orders fascist crackdown on pro-Palestine groups
Republicans love "free speech" right up until they hear speech they don't like. Florida’s university system chancellor, responding to a push by likely failed presidential candidate and current Governor Ron DeSantis, directed state universities Tuesday to disband campus groups with ties to the national Students for Justice in Palestine organization. In a memo to school leaders, the state ordered a “crack down” on campus events led by the pro-Palestinian organization that the DeSantis administration claims amount to “harmful support for terrorist groups” like Hamas. Weirdly enough, DeSantis has not ordered a crack down on the *literal Nazi groups* that demonstrate in Florida on a regular basis, so draw your own conclusion from that.
