 CHAMPION MESSAGE

"How nice that AOC claims to have helped her goddaughter get into a public charter school. It’s a shame that she would deny that opportunity to every other disadvantaged family in America. 'Good for me, but not for thee,' indeed. #EducationFreedom"

There's a New Setback in the Fight Against AB 5

The California legislature stopped an effort to overturn the gig-killing law, AB 5. Lawmakers had a chance to correct the wrong of AB 5 by repealing it and returning to the previous standard to determine which workers are independent contractors. They blew it. On the same morning of this vote, AB 5’s author Lorena Gonzales introduced a bill to exempt freelance writers and journalists from AB 5. Was this an admission of the hardship triggered by her AB 5 bill or just a way to sink its repeal efforts by quieting the journalism community? You be the judge.

Disgusting Politicization of the Coronavirus

Even by the standards of today, the politicized reaction to coronavirus is disgusting. It’s a new low in an era of almost daily new lows. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued statements filled with partisan rancor, rather than working across the aisle for the health and safety of all Americans.

Study: Conservative Students Befriend Liberals, But Not Vice Versa

In a new study, researchers found that conservative students are far more willing to befriend a liberal student than are liberal students willing to befriend a conservative. Some of the surprising highlights:
  • 23% of self-identified liberal students would not befriend a conservative student versus 3% of conservative students who would not befriend a liberal.

  • 60% of liberal students would not date a conservative, compared to 30% of conservatives who would not date a liberal.

  • 3x the proportion of conservatives censored themselves at least once (67.9%), compared to the proportion of liberals who did the same (24.1%).

John Tierney: Cool It on the Plastic Panic

John Tierney makes a compelling case that everything we know about single-use plastic bags is either misguided or wrong. Tierney explains that plastic recycling, which often proves too expensive to sort and clean, is shipped to countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Those countries and other non-Western countries are responsible for nearly 86% of plastic waste.

Insecticide Bans Create Locust Plague in Africa

African countries are experiencing a locust plague of biblical proportions. However, the green movement has pretty much ensured that it will be impossible to obtain sufficient supplies of the insecticides needed to combat this deadly plague. This effort might make green westerners feel good, but it kills or starves people in Africa and other developing parts of the world.

Federal Judge Issues Timely Warning Against Turning Courts into Branch of the Resistance

When President Trump succeeded in having 10 new judges appointed to the 9th Circuit, previously the most liberal court in the U.S., some liberal judges angrily charged that Trump had “flipped” the court.
