Hi John,
Since launching my campaign for Congress, I’ve been reconnecting with those who supported me in 2020. Many remember me as the scientist who took on former Rep. Lee Zeldin, but I’m also a lifelong educator and advocate for children’s wellbeing.
Education has been a cornerstone of my life’s work. In my roles with the nonprofits Children and Screens and the Long Island Strong School Alliance (LISSA), I’ve witnessed firsthand the importance of nurturing safe and inclusive environments for our children to thrive.
Today’s youth are navigating an ever-changing digital landscape, often with more knowledge about the internet than their guardians (or many of our representatives in Congress). Children and families deserve an advocate in Congress who will work to give them the tools they need to keep kids safe.
Children and adolescents often face a barrage of harmful imagery and messaging online, from cyberbullying to false body image standards to disinformation about the news.
World events that fan antisemitism, Islamophobia, and hate make it even more challenging for parents. At recent community gatherings, I’ve heard from parents grappling with how to help their children deal with the images and stories they encounter online.
Every child deserves to feel a sense of belonging and safety in their school. Through LISSA, I have helped parents advocate for a more equitable and inclusive learning environment for their kids. At Children and Screens, we work to provide parents and educators with the best available information and tools to keep their children healthy while navigating online environments.
Children and families deserve an advocate in Congress who understands the challenges they face and will work to protect their kids.
