"We're all standing together and fighting. And what we have to now is defend ourselves from these right wing politicians." - Gov. Roy Cooper

Hi there, it’s Roy Cooper, Governor of North Carolina. I asked the DGA if I could reach out about a critical threat facing our nation. Right now, across the country Republican lawmakers are in the midst of a coordinated campaign to suppress the vote. And with 2023 elections just weeks away we must stop them in their tracks.

Before I explain how Democratic governors – including me – are fighting back, I have an important question to ask. Will you step up and activate your Blue Firewall membership? There are less than 48 hours left to ensure DGA has the resources we need to fight back against the GOP’s rampant voter suppression campaign and elect Democratic governors nationwide.

Eleven states have enacted anti-voting laws so far this year. And right here in North Carolina, Republicans are on the offensive, using the advice of Trump’s handpicked election denier Cleta Mitchell to attack the right to vote under the guise of ‘election security.’ I vetoed that bill, but their one-vote supermajority in the legislature overrode the veto.

Let me be crystal clear. Attempts to strip Americans of their freedom to vote have nothing to do with protecting our elections and everything to do with keeping and gaining power.

  • If you’re a young person – Republicans don’t want you to vote.
  • If you’re a college student away from home – Republicans don’t want you to vote.
  • If you vote by mail – Republicans don’t want you to vote.
  • If you use a ballot collection box to turn in your ballot – Republicans don’t want you to vote.
  • And if you’re Black or brown – Republicans don’t want you to vote.

It’s simple: Republicans are doing everything they can to gain and keep power. We can only prevent continuing attacks on our most basic rights by ousting these far-right extremists, and electing Democratic leaders who will fight for the people – not themselves.

So I’m asking you to act, John. As Republicans continue to build up their war chests and use that money to attack Democrats in the states, the DGA is working tirelessly to raise the resources needed to combat their attacks and elect Democratic governors who will protect the right to vote – including in states like Mississippi and Kentucky. Will you please rush a donation of $6 or whatever you can to ACTIVATE your membership before tomorrow night’s critical deadline? Each activated membership will get us one step closer to cementing our blue firewall and protecting and expanding voting access nationwide.

Thank you for joining me in this fight,

Roy Cooper
Governor of North Carolina

Roy Cooper was reelected to a second term as governor because he’s a fighter for good-paying jobs, strong public schools, access to quality, affordable health care, and a safer and more just North Carolina. He’s the kind of commonsense leader we can count on to protect democracy and safeguard reproductive rights from Republican attacks. In 2022, he led the DGA to historic victories reelecting Democratic governors nationwide and flipping three red states BLUE during the midterm elections. Will you answer his call to action and activate your membership before midnight tomorrow?
